Sean Michael Exclusive Interview

Sean Michael talks to Pride Publishing about the Chess Series.

You have revisited and expanded your Chess series! Why did you want to return to this series in particular?

I love the men of Chess and it was wonderful to do some additional scenes for their story. And I was able to give them (and the Piercer’s Game men) the perfect coda to their stories – it felt like wrapping a bow on the series. As one of my more popular series, it was also great to be able to give my readers more.

You have also written a new book to join the series, Pre-Game. What made you want to continue this series?

It was just the excuse I needed to go back to the beginning of everything – how Rook, Knight and Bishop met, how their love affair started, how they came to be the established threesome we see at the beginning of Opening Games. This is the bedtime story that Rook told Jason when he asked how they all met.

Give us an insight into what additions we can expect to see this time round.

Each of the books except for En Prise has a new scene of around 1500 words added. Opening Moves’ scene takes place before the book begins, while Middle Game’s new scene explores a posing session gone… horny. In the Helpmate extra scene, Jason marries school work with caring for his men, while the End Game extra takes place at the very end of the series, making it the cherry on top of the foursome’s story. The Piercer’s Game extra scene also fits at the very end of the story and wraps everything up in the perfect bow. The only story that doesn’t have an actual extra scene is En Prise. I thought it would be more appropriate to do something else for this book, and have included the favourite recipes that Jason cooks for each of his lovers.

These are some of your earliest titles with Totally Bound, do they have special significance to you?

Opening Moves is in fact the very first book I published with Totally Bound, and your first is always special, isn’t it? I was very pleased to be working with Totally Bound and even more pleased that they wanted all of Rook, Knight, Bishop and Jason’s story, even when that went from three to four to five! The whole thing could have begun and ended with Opening Moves and that would have been a shame.

What is it that you love writing about series?

Sometimes when I finish a book, the characters are done. They’re happy and stop pestering me for more. But more often than not, the characters linger and dangle tidbits, trying to entice me into continuing their stories, into writing more. With a series I can do that – I can go back and keep exploring what makes the characters tick, what happens to them next.

And of course, it gives me more chances to write hot sex with kinky dudes, which is always a good time for me.

What would be your best piece of advice for aspiring Pride Publishing authors?

Write every day. Love what you do. And don’t give up.

What can we expect from you next with Pride Publishing?

There are two more books in the Beer & Clay series, which will be coming out in the first half of 2016, as well as the sequel to The Biker’s Pup, featuring Whip’s friend Trig which will see the light of day at the end of 2015. I’ve also got a few other projects in the works, including a new series for the Ink call – tattoos and hot men, I just couldn’t resist!
