I’d be the first to admit that I’m a shy, socially-anxious person who’s not the best with surprises. I like to know what I’m getting into– when there’s a party I’m supposed to attend, I want to know who’s going to be there; if we’re going to see a movie, I want to know which one and what it’s about. For me, in most cases, spontaneity just goes hand in hand with anxiety. But when it comes to writing, for as nervous as it can make me, spontaneity is an almost-constant companion.
I have something of an obsession with YouTube. Not just the viral videos that everyone checks out; I use it for music, I watch daily vlogs from all kinds of users, gaming videos, you name it. More than once, I’d considered making a channel of my own for any or all of those purposes. YouTube, more than anything else, is my worst distraction when I’m trying to write, so it just made sense to figure out some way to make my Achille’s heel into something productive.
A lot of craziness! Wonder wraps up the Spellbound trilogy, and ties up the loose ends that have been left trailing behind the other two books, Night and Monster. This book finally gives Adam, a recurring favorite from earlier in the series, his chance at the spotlight, and it gave me an opportunity to really pull together everyone from the series for the finale, which was a lot of fun.
Why do you have a love/ hate relationship with Arizona?
There is a lot to love about Arizona... the scenery is gorgeous, the weather's consistent; you never have to worry about a tornado, or a hurricane, or earthquakes. But the toss up to that is definitely the heat.
